Our Pottery Studio

Sanctuary Point Community Arts Cottage

Located in the heart of Sanctuary Point, our community arts cottage has been a creative hub for over 30 years. Surrounded by the breathtaking natural beauty of the south coast, we offer a space for artists, hobbyists, and the local community to come together, share their passion for pottery, and connect with one another.

Our fully equipped studio features a variety of tools and resources to help bring your artistic visions to life, including:

  • Pottery wheels
  • Kiln for firing your creations
  • A wide selection of glazes and clays
  • Moulds for shaping your work
  • Extruders for crafting with precision
  • A drying room for preparing pieces for firing
  • Extensive pottery library
  • Tools and materials available for purchase

Whether you’re a seasoned potter or trying your hand at clay for the first time, we welcome you to join us in creating and exploring the world of pottery.

Studio Guidelines

Our adults-only studio is a welcoming and creative space shared by all members. To help everything run smoothly, here are a few simple guidelines we ask everyone to follow:

Studio Access

Access to the Bay & Basin Bush Pottery Studio is only available to people over 18 years old,  who are current financial members who actively contribute to the group. Our yearly membership fee helps us keep the studio running and stocked with supplies - it's great value for everything you get!

Not sure if you're up to date? Just ask one of the committee members, we’re always happy to help.

Cleaning Up

  • Everyone is responsible for cleaning their own work area and any shared group equipment they have used before heading off.
  • Use a wet cloth to wipe down surfaces - no dry brushing or sweeping, as it stirs up dust.
  • No sanding inside the studio. Please sand outdoors and wear a mask.
  • No food or drinks in the main creating area - we want to keep clay and dust out of our cuppas!
  • Clean and dry all equipment with the outside sink area and return it to where it belongs.
  • No washing hands down the inside sink!
  • Use water buckets for cleaning hands and pour dirty water into the garden areas.

Materials & Tools

All clay must be purchased through the group. We keep our price list on the studio noticeboard - check it next time you're in!

We also stock a range of glazes that you can use - you only pay for what you use. Clay purchases are for members only due to limited supply.

Kiln Use

Once there’s enough work in the same clay type, members help load the kiln for bisque or glaze firing. Everyone’s welcome to learn the process - we’re always happy to guide you through it.

Contribution & Community

This group runs on teamwork! Everyone is encouraged to help out - whether it's setting up, cleaning, filling the kiln, sharing knowledge, or simply showing up with a smile. We’re built on respect, kindness, and a shared love for pottery.

Positive Vibes Only

Let’s keep our studio warm and uplifting - it's a space for joy, creativity, and community. Get your hands messy, try something new, and enjoy the process!

All OH&S guidelines, important updates, and upcoming events are pinned to our studio noticeboard - be sure to check it regularly so you don’t miss a thing!

If you’ve got a question, need supplies, or want to learn something new, just ask, we’re all here to support one another!
